Travel Photography: On the Road, in 50 Miles
We take long road trips, and in 2008 we came up with the idea that we should take one photograph every 50 miles or so, regardless of place, time of day (or night), or subject. The first trip on which we did this was our cross-country move from San Diego, CA to Princeton, NJ. Unfortunately, it was not entirely complete since we did not start taking pictures until 100 miles or so east of L.A. Of course, the 50-mile moniker does not imply strict measurement. Road conditions often do not permit one to stop at the precise 50-mile mark, so we did a ±10 miles. There are plenty of boring pics, mostly because there are plenty of boring places. Still, as a visual record of a journey, each of these galleries gives a snapshop of a trip in all its unvarnished beauty.![]() Los Angeles to Princeton |
