Music: Styles: Power Metal
Perhaps the best metal style, this one started with Helloween and seems to be
thriving today. The music is fast, with a very recognizable melody set against the thundering
double-kick drumming, powerful bass, and very technical guitars. Keyboards are usually kept to a
minimum. Vocalists are almost without exception male and are usually high baritones or tenors. The
singing is clear and the lyrics are usually of the swords-and-sorcerers, dagger-and-sandal variety.
Quite misogynistic, an extreme emphasis on "being true", etc. etc., blah-blah; One can safely ignore
all the lyrical fluff in favor of the music, which is mostly happy, energetic, and very powerful. You
cannot be depressed with a power metal CD in your player, period. Definitely my favorite metal style.
