Music: Styles: Death Metal

The first extreme metal that gathered force in the beginning of the nineties, mostly by copying early innovators like Celtic Frost and Death. The music is slow, all instruments are tuned as low as possible, the vocals are usually grinding and incomprehensible. The emphasis is on the bass register and the lyrics deal with quite morbid issues like dismemberment, death, bodily secretions, and such. Band members usually wear jeans and black tees, not unlike their fans. I never liked this style (with very few exceptions, like Therion) and today it has become so stale, it is painful to listen. The distinct characteristics of death metal proved to be an insurmountable hindrance for musical growth. This style is now dead (although this fact is not reflected in the number of active uninteresting bands.)
