Nordavind (1994, Moonfog)
Lineup: Kari Rueslåten (vocals), Herr Nagell (drums, vocals), S. Wongraven (guitars, bass,
synth, vocals)
By their own admission, Storm's album is a hymn dedicated to Norway. The trio has produced
an amazing piece of work which is best described as Nordic folk suffused with heavier
elements and emphasis on viking chants. Wongraven who went on to do similar work under his
own name got together with Kari Rueslåtten to sing one of the most enchanting verse committed
to tape/disc. Having never been to Scandinavia, this is an album that makes me want to visit
as soon as possible. There's a lot of legends, myths, forests, fjords, and seas that rustle
through the music. Excellent work, similar to the old The 3rd and the Mortal (also with Kari)
and perhaps even some of the newer Einherjer.
Of course, it helps that the three members are Kari (The 3rd and the Mortal), Herr Nagell (Fenriz
of Darkthrone), and Wongraven (Satyr of Satyricon).
Verdict: perhaps one of the best Nordic folk metal albums.
