Here's one of the best and strangest releases of 1999. I picked up this CD from DS's Ted with the firm belief that whatever he decides to put out must be good. I have never been disappointed by him and this time was no exception. The US outfit surpassed my expectations easily and then went beyond. The style is difficult to pinpoint. The first song has a doomish The-Gathering feel to it but then grows into a Dead Can Dance-duet against a heavy backdrop and finally explodes into a twin guitar solo. The second piece, "A Conception Pathetic" starts out as a black metal song, with screaming and everything, but then develops into a subdued doom/death melody. The weirdness continues with a mix of lightweight folkish music reminiscent of DCD (again), and then slips into the unique MOTW metal. The best I can do to characterize this is a cross between Gehenna and Ancient Ceremony plus a heavy touch of DCD. Very cool stuff.

Verdict: great debut, let's see what else these guys-and-gal can do.
