Siége Perilous (1998, F.A.D.)
Lineup: Khan (vocals), Thomas Youngblood (guitars), David Pavlicko (keyboards), Glenn
Barry (bass), Casey Grillo (drums)
Style: Power metal with progressive elements
This is Kamelot's third album and the first one with Khan, and have they improved a lot.
Much more imaginative and powerful, the arrangements are tight and enjoyable. Khan's voice
is a much better fit than the old singer although he does lack the intensity and registry
range of many power and especially prog metal vocalists. However, the singing is adequate
and has a velvety warm touch to it.
Stylistically, Kamelot seem to have found their unique niche. It's definitely power metal
but the keyboards add that prog feeling, which couples well with the complex arrangements.
"Millenium" is one of the coolest songs ever with galloping drumming and catchy piano tune.
I wish more of the album was like this. The band promises that the next recording will be
in this vein. We can only hope. There's way too many "K" letters on the cover.
Verdict: quite good, especially when one keeps in mind the scarcity of decent power metal
bands today.
