Films: People: Michelle Yeoh (Malaysia)

Michelle Yeoh's popularity in the US began with TOMORROW NEVER DIES and has recently been cemented with the incredibly stylish CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON. Yet not many are aware of her long and very distinguished career in Hong Kong. The Malaysian beauty was born in 1962, went to ballet school in Britain, and played in several low-budget HK flicks in the early 1980s until the 1985 YES, MADAM catapulted her into stardom as the quintessential woman-with-guns, in which role she starred in the 007 movie as well. She retired after the horrible EASY MONEY (marriage to the producer) but thankfully came back after the divorce. She is an accomplished actor and from what I hear has plans to direct her own films. We can only hope. Michelle Yeoh
