Films: People: Gong Li (China)

China's premier actress was born in 1965 and has gained popularity worldwide (both to audience and critical acclaim) mainly through the films of her once-lover director Zhang Yimou. Famous for her portrayal of strong women tragically enfeebled by a static and rigid society, Gong Li has also made several Hong Kong frivolous quickies, where her multitalented acting ability has taken her to the Thespian heights of playing the lesbian Mo Ha-Wen. Incredibly beautiful and well-spoken, she is the darling of the media and this reviewer as well. Gong Li
